Hello! I'm

Juan M. Espín

My Experience

Facephi

Tech PAD Lead since January 2023

Remote work, Murcia, ES

A few months ago, my position in the company was upgraded. I passed to Lead the teams focused on the presentation attack detections in face and documents. I manage a workforce of ten people.

Currently, my work focuses on:

Senior Researcher since April 2021

Remote work, Murcia, ES

In April 2021, I joined the Facephi Research team. I contribute all the knowledge and experience I acquired during my last years working in voice and behavioral biometrics (continuous authentication systems).

In this position, my work focused on:

Biometric Vox

Researcher since August 2015, and Presales Engineer since 2018

Murcia, ES

During the completion of a master's degree in advanced mathematics applied to business, the founder of Biometric Vox told me about the problem he had to solve, the technology that could solve it, and his intention to start a company.

I had never heard of voice biometrics, but I loved the project and decided to join it in the research department.

My first tasks were to acquire basic knowledge of the field and reach the state of the art. During the first year, I worked together with the team in adaptation models. During my second year at the company, I focused on antispoofing systems, developing synthesis and duplicate detection systems.

In 2018, Biometric Vox closed an investment round of 1 million euros. Because we are a tiny group of people, this fact triggers my move towards the pre-sale/commercial side to support the newly incorporated commercials. Besides, managing other tasks that I had includes, such as marketing and communication management.

My work focused on:

Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena

Associate professor from October 2017 to September 2018

Cartagena, ES

The ideas of transmitting my knowledge and motivating young people in mathematics have always interested me. These came true when I had the opportunity to teach at the UPCT as an associate professor.

At the end of the school year, I had to leave the position due to a working peak in my primary role. Teaching the beauty of mathematics to young people who wanted to know it, and giving them examples of its use in their future jobs was a very enriching and formative experience for me as well.

My projects

Most of us tend to occupy the time outside of work in countless things.

Mine focuses on my partner, my doctoral thesis, sports, yoga/meditation, reading and small projects.

Next, I detail my doctoral thesis and some project that I have in my hands to dedicate a more significant effort.

Ph.D. Thesis

Design of a continuous authentication system in smartphones using information from sensors, usage statistics, and voice.

Home Trainer

(in progress)

Design and development of an interactive home trainer bike.

This trainer simulates real scenes without causing stress to the bike

Smart Shine Guards

This shin guard would be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth and send data to an application on the smartphone. The objective was to extract information and analyse the player from the data collected by the sensors (gyroscope, accelerometers, pressure cells and GPS).

Highlight a step counter, analysis of the kicks received, analysis of the ball hit, ...

The prototype is functional, it was discovered that parameters such as inclination and type of terrain were very influential; The necessary research was to cause the arrival to the market later.

Abandoned by similar product launch by a famous brand.
